The Divine Female: this is the oldest spiritual concept of Humankind. It epitomizes empathy, nurturing and kindness, qualities essential to coexisting with each other and with the Natural World. Over 23 years, Jeffrey Moose Gallery has presented seven exhibits in celebration of the Goddess, but never has the ideal been more important, more urgent.

On First Friday, November 2nd, the gallery opens "Goddesses 8: She Persists" with a reception from 6 to 8 pm. The show runs through December 29th. A second event will take place, after the election, on Saturday, November 10th from 2 to 5 PM.

Originally inspired by former Suquamish sculptor Bob Lucas (now in Costa Rica), and Seattle painter Suzanne Haddon (now in Australia) , this show has brought together a wide range of artists and media. This line up includes Mr Lucas, Ms. Haddon and Kitsap artists Deborah Milton, Suzanne Gardner and Patricia "SheTree" McGarrity together with Native artist Lillian Pitt and former UW Prof Lou Cabeen.

Ms. Milton, with a Ph.D. in Human Development, from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, worked for a decade as a therapist before devoting her life to pursuit of the arts, teaching workshops in art and personal development as well as publishing writings and illustrations. Ms Gardner is a painter and graphic designer who studied art at colleges in Southern California. She has exhibited locally for over 16 years and has published The Artist Who Paints the Magic of Life. Ms. McGarrity has a 1996 BFA from the Northwest College of Art, has exhibited locally and acts as a facilitator for the group West Sound Women of Wisdom.

"Probing ancient views of the Goddess is instructive. It shows a female figure almost always more powerful than the male. Not only is she his Mother, the author of his being; she is also the deity who infuses all creation with the vital blood of life. Gods prosper only when they partake of her wisdom or adopt her powers, until they commit the ultimate hubris, symbolic matricide, by setting up an all-masculine theology."
